Snow White and the Huntsman is about as appealing as a poison apple. The film is about the young Snow White trying to escape and defeat the evil stepmother. The worst part about watching this movie is watching its pathetic attempt at being an arthouse film. Huntsman leaps at every moment to show some tedious dark/magical imagery while constantly trying to convince the audience that its some deep and thought-provoking film. On top of that there's some cheesy overacting (Charlize Theron) and emotionless underacting (as usual Kristen Stewart). Look, there's so much wrong with this film: over the top everything, confusing characters, plot holes, and eye rolling conveniences. Simply put, there aren't any redeeming factors to be found.

Pretty Evil Message

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN is an effort to tell fairy tales in their original dark, frightening mode. The film succeeds in its attempt. Queen Ravenna is a truly, murderous shade of evil. The term "eat your heart out" isn't figurative. The black forest with takes the creepiest corners of children's imaginations and makes it real: it's really out to get you. That said, it's PG-13 so while a lot of hitting people with axes occurs, no bloody heads are rolling around or anything. The PG-13 rating is pretty accurate -- younger kids could see the film if they don't get scared easily.

On the other hand, this whole "fairest of them all" messaging is a little wonky. Queen Ravenna learns that she can control men as long as she is the most beautiful. She only loses her power once a younger, more beautiful woman is in the picture. Of course, this is true to the original fairy tale but haven't we evolved?
