The movie Battle for Terra is an action-packed , fast paced, sci-fi film, which I thought was awesome. It wasn’t as good as I hoped, but it was really enjoyable and I would recommend it. Any sci-fi loving boy or girl would love to watch this film.
It’s set in the distant future, as human kind struggles to find a planet that they can live on. Their only hope is a planet they named Terra. But the people living their already can’t survive in the world humans want to make it, which leads to battle. Mala, a teenage girl of the Terrain species gets involved when she meets a human, and she leads a fight for her planet that was once peaceful. The story to me was very interesting, since the humans are the invaders, like one of the two films that have that theme this year.
This film isn’t funny, really, so if that all that you care about in movies, this film isn’t for you. It has more of a serious edge, although the beginning sort of has a fun vibe. As I said before, it’s full of action, which I like a lot, and I’m sure any boy from 7 and up would enjoy, even younger. Action looks really cool, and for some reason, it just triggers a nerve I guess that just makes you like it.
The dialogue is so-so, and what’s supposed to be the comic relief (a robot invented by humans) is bland. It’s voiced well, but it overall could be better. Some stuff is just a little weird, like the silent animated “noooooooo” scene which offered more comedy to me than the robot did, and can get cheesey with lines like “It has begun,” but it doesn’t really play too much of a part in the film.
The animation was really good. I liked the character design and the settings were amazing. It was detailed and the colors fit. The 3-D didn’t really do much, so I leave up to you to decide if you want to see it that way.
So, overall, this is a film you’d probably really enjoy. It depends on what you like, and even so, it probably won’t bore you.
