Alexander Ludwig, THE HUNGER GAMES

Alexander Ludwig, THE HUNGER GAMESUPDATE: Alexander Ludwig, who played the natural born killer Cato in The Hunger Games, is taking a much lighter role: David Spade's son in Grown-Ups 2. Ludwig joins other heart-throbby types like Taylor Lautner and David Henrie. Ludwig's previous work includes starring in Race to Witch Mountain and The Seeker: The Dark is Rising.

May 14, 2012 -- Taylor Lautner (Twilight), Oliver Cooper (Project X), Cheri Oteri (Sleeping Beauty in the Shrek movies) and Nick Swardson (Jack and Jill) are joining the cast of Grown-Ups 2. Swardson will play Rob Schneider's brother, a school bus driver who is also a drunk. Oteri, one of Adam Sandler's former "SNL" castmates, will play Sander's ex-girlfriend from junior high who now works in his wife's (Salma Hayek) store. Cooper will play a frat boy type (see David Henrie's role below). Lautner's role hasn't been disclosed except to say it's "fun" and that his character goes toe-to-toe with Sandler - it sounds like he might also be one of the frat boys Sandler and his friends run into.

April 10, 2012 -- It's still shocking to hear there will be a Grown-Ups 2 but the news just got more promising. Wizards of Waverly Place star David Henrie (also in The Secret World of Arrietty) has been cast to

play the leader of a group of frat boys who confront Sandler and his pack of friends (Chris Rock, Rob Scheider, Kevin James and David Spade). It will be a reteaming for Henrie and James who star together in the upoming period drama Little Boy.

And, even though many moviegoers thought it seemed like there was no script, surprisingly one did exist and the writer of that script (Fred Wolf) is in talks for round 2. Happy Madison will produce for Sony but Adam Sandler will not commit to starring in the film until the script is finished.

Here's what we're hoping is really going on. Grown-Ups seemed a lot like Oceans 12 in that it was filled with huge stars (George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, etc.) who were all friends and the film seemed like they made the film for themselves -- that their egos were so big they thought they could slap something together and audiences would flock to the theater in gratitude. Just like Grown-Ups, Oceans 12 wasn't good. But, that gang of A-listers wanted to right the wrong and so they made the fantastic Oceans 13 as an apologetic bouquet of flowers.

What was most disappointing about Grown-Ups is that it was filled with comedic stars and it was such a massive, wasted opportunity to be awesome. Here's hoping Adam Sandler will make it up to us in Grown-Ups 2.
