Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2

I liked the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 but it wasn't funny. I also don't like all the romance. It was short and I liked how they were all friends.

PARENT REVIEW: Pregnant With Mature Material

The girls of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 are no longer girls. Now, young women in college, the foursome are dealing with issues that pertain to 20-year-olds and less to tween girls.

We now find Tibby, Carmen, Lena and Bridget spread across the country attending different universities. The summer doesn't work out as planned, everyone taking internships or college coursework in their separate fields in separate parts of the world. Once again, they use the miracle jeans as a connection to one another while on their separate adventures.

The filmmaker is extremely aware of its teen girl audience and handles the pregancy issues responsibly. An unplanned pregancy, a pregnancy scare resulting from "responsible" premarital sex, and a planned pregnancy are all treated responsibly showing the damages and rewards, respectively. Consequences, though, not so much.

Much of being 20 is trying to figure out who you are and two of the characters go through this exploration along with the exemplification of how different people view friendship and what that means in the practical day to day.

If Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 doesn't sound incredibly light, it's not. And if it doesn't sound like it will appeal to its demo of teenage girls, my call is it won't.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 has at least eight "cry" scenes and my theater was full of 35- to 50-year old women, not 14-year old girls. It's not a particularly "bonding" movie for parents and daughters (especially because of the scene that leads to the pregnancy scare!) but may serve better as a bonding film for a bunch of girlfriends. Appropriate for ages 14 and up.
