Nim's Island is really great. Kids will like it because it has a girl who swings through trees and swims with seals. Nim's Island is about an 11 year old girl who lives on an island with her dad and her dad gets lost at sea. She's all by herself on the island and asks a lady who writes adventure books to help her. PS: She also likes eating worms. . . and her dad does too.

Stay Stranded

This should be left on a stranded island! Nim's Island is about an 11-year-old girl fendng off a cruiseline and waiting for her storybook hero after her father gets stranded at sea. First of all, the story is extremely far-fetched and bad. There's a mild sense of adventure here, but it's hard to get that sense with the horrible writing. Hope Nim's Island gets lost at sea. Grade: D. Ages 4+

PARENT REVIEW: All You Can Hope For!

Nim's Island is everything a parent hopes for in a family film! The story is about a girl who is raised on a secret island but has to fend for herself against nature and "invaders" when her father becomes lost at sea. Of the many great messages in Nim's Island, be courageous not fearful is at the top. Both our 11-year-old brave heroine Nim (Abigail Breslin) and the 40ish-agoraphobe author Alexandra Rover (Jodie Foster) realize they have the knowledge, ability, and determination within themselves to do the right thing ... even when frightened with the unknown.

Nim's Island is the best onscreen catalyst to exciting your child about nature and inspiring him to check out the fantastic playground that is outdoors. Nim's best friends are animals and her relationship with them and respect for them makes even a city kid want to find a friend in a pelican. When indoors, the film suggests children read, demonstrating how both reading and writing can spark imagination and open up new worlds.

Whether you're from the city or an island, a girl or a boy, a kid or a grown up, brave or scared, the message is summed up in the tagline of Alex Rover's books: Be the Hero of Your Own Story. Nim's Island is a story worth sharing. For kids 5 and older.
