Spider-Man 3

Spide…errr……Man, I wanted to love this but it's just okay.Spiderman 3 is about that hero returning to have a fight with Sandman, everybody around him and, actually, himself. Action is always good, but you feel like its limited because he’s worried about his social life. The effects were good for the most part, but were creepy and felt like they were lacking. The web came just a bit short. Ages 9+.

the story begins as peter parker(which is spiderman) starts swinging around the city. the whole city and also the kids likes him. peter goes to maryjane's play, harry sees peter outside of the theater, wants to talk to harry, starts saying crap. harry gets transformed into new goblin. peter takes maryjane on a date at the park, starts kissing, then a meteor falls out of the sky. black symbiote comes out of the meteor. then gets into peter's moped. after that, here comes flint marko escape from prison, the blah blah blah, threat threat threat. just go watch the movie.

I Loved This Movie

WARNING: SPOILERS! I loved this movie. I really liked the villans in this movie. I liked that Sam Raimi added on to the Spider-Man movie franchise. I thought Venom was VERY freaky and disgusting! I was disappointed that Venom was only in the last few minutes of the movie. I want more fighting, less kissy kissy googy love story. Peter loving Mary Jane usually leads him to more trouble. I think it was cool that he transformed into black Spider-Man and when he was fighting in the sewer with Sandman, and Sandman got washed up and he was talking to Aunt May and then Sandman turned into mud. Then Sandman washed up on the river bank. That was pretty cool. But he looked like a lame super villian. But he was a good actor in the movie. I didn't like how they made Harry Osbourne look on the side of the face. I really want to get the movie on dvd.

Lots of Crying and I Was Scared

I liked it but I didn’t like the crying parts – there was a lot of crying. I would not tell a girl to see Spiderman 3 because only boys will like it. The black stuff scared me and I was afraid someone would die.

PARENT REVIEW: Depression is No Fun

While comic book superheroes used to be kids stuff, the films have developed into dark, mature films that are really for adults. Spiderman 3 recognizes its core kid audience with kid-pleasing scenes like incredible special effects and a child who charges the newspaper editor $100 for her camera. However, the unnecessarily drawn out storyline about Spiderman getting caught up in his own fame and reveling in his attention from women as well as Mary Jane’s depression and infidelity is just boring to kids.

The black suit of Spiderman and Venom is actually a black gooey substance that overtakes those filled with a desire for revenge and is a fantastic visual metaphor for hate. The audience can actually see how hate changes someone’s personality and that forgiveness, not revenge, will set us free from our rage. While Peter Parker is in his “dark” mode, he is cruel to his friends and girlfriends -- even getting physical with Mary Jane. The behavior is clearly unacceptable to everyone including Peter and sinking to that low helps him to figure out he needs to shed his new “suit.”

Movies often depict bad guys as just plain evil. The Sandman demonstrates that often “bad” guys are the result of poor choices in difficult circumstances …and regretful, to boot. The action stays fairly comic book but when the newscaster notes that when Sandman is pounding Spidey, we “don’t know how much more of the brutality we can watch” pertains to the movie audience as well. Most frightening is the Venom character who will be the take-home nightmare, if any.

Spiderman 3 provides plenty of topics to delve into for discussion with your kids – including that Mary Jane’s kissing someone else wound up putting she and Peter at risk. While we don’t have to worry about actually kissing a Goblin in real life, you can discuss with teens that infidelity doesn't always result from outward intention than putting yourself into a precarious situation where one thing may lead to another in the heat of the moment. If we love someone, we simply don’t put ourselves in that situation, as innocent as it may initially seem. For children 8 and older.
