Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

This gold in this chest is tarnished. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is about the eccentric Jack Sparrow hunting for the Fountain of Youth. The film mostly delivers on everything you wanted from the Pirates series, mainly being completely Jack Sparrow-driven. What I've always liked about the series is still here: the elaborate sword fights (now more choreographed), the gorgeous cinematography, and the wry humor. My one big complaint is that the story feels cramped; I really wish they had cut out the mermaid/Christian missionary storyline as it felt like it didn't fit. And, why does it feel like the singing part is shoehorned in? Ages 13+

mermaids, really!? Too many charachters

Good movie. Still delivers all the humor and swashbuckling from the other 3 but this time, too many charachters. Devilish mermaids and evil pirates are likely to scare youngsters. Kids 10+

a pirate's life for me, maybe not you

Ok, this movie totally rocked my socks off. But, also might have been a little scary for younger eyes. the movie is rated PG-13, and people should go by it. just because it's a Disney brand movie does not mean it's appropriate for all ages. But i did love the movie. great plot line, great script, and kept you on the edge of your seat. it does have a little bit of language, but nothing extreme. old captain didn't drop a F bomb. a great film, for older eyes. it was a major hit with all of my teen friends, not so much their younger siblings. the mermaids and the haunted ropes scared them. by the way to all who say the movie made your idea of the sea scary, the sea is nothing like the movie. no such thing as mermaids, pirates who control ropes on their ship, or captains that can make zombies. just sayin!

PARENT: FATAL ATTRACTION for 10 Year Olds

I just got over my JAWS-induced fear of the ocean. Now, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES has given me new reason to panic whenever I'm ankle deep in salt water: Mermaids. It turns out, mermaids aren't just slightly bratty as Disney led us to believe in THE LITTLE MERMAID and PETER PAN. Nope, they're scary creatures that lure men in with their beauty only to drag them to the bottom of the ocean and have them for dinner, literally. While Disney may be setting the record straight with POTC4, it's pretty scary stuff. What will it do to your kid? Think about it as FATAL ATTRACTION for 10 year olds.

The mermaids are definitely the scariest part of POTC4 but not the most heinous. Blackbeard is a pretty bad guy. If you don't know that, he says outright, "I'm a bad guy." He proves it by burning a man to death. It's a scene that's meant to show just what a heartless guy he is but, seriously, it's shocking. Additionally, there's a couple of comical moments that play with sexuality like a guy falling into between a woman's breasts. POTC4 has Jack Sparrow searching for the Fountain of Youth with his ex-girlfriend Angelica whose reputation he sullied when he romanced her out of a convent and then left her. The implication is that, you know, "something" happened. However, by movie's end, Sparrow indicates things never went that far.

What all of this means is that POTC4 is appropriately rated which is why I'm giving it a "PICK" rating. It is fine for 13+. It's rated PG-13 and it SHOULD BE PG-13.

However, for kids younger than 13, it's a different story. The 8 year old boy I spoke to after the movie was pretty shaken up. But, because POTC4 is a Disney movie (who even realizes it's "Touchstone" until they're in the theater?) and a beloved franchise, parents will take their younger kids to see it anyway. Please take my advice, though: don't take kids younger than 10. It's really not meant for them, they don't want to see the romance, they don't want to try and understand the adult conversation or diciper the unintelligible Cockney and, most of all, they don't want to be afraid of the water for the rest of their life. On that, trust me and Steven Spielberg.

Ty-Simpkins: Meet IRON MAN 3's 11-year Old Star

altby Miranda R., Age 15

At 11 years old, Ty Simpkins already has quite a few credits on his resume. Simpkins has been in movies since he was barely 3 months old, and has roles in flicks such as Insidious, The Next Three Days, and Little Children. Maybe even more interesting is how many times he's been cast in films with his real life sister Ryan Simpkins - they play siblings in Revolutionary Road, Pride and Glory and Arcadia, among others.

altBut for Iron Man 3, Ty's first action movie, he goes it alone. Ty plays Harley Keener, an intelligent kid who has a run-in with Iron Man and actually helps him save the day.

Ty's favorite part of working on Iron Man 3 was being able to spend time with its star Robert Downey Jr. "Robert's really fun to work with. He's a really nice guy."

Like many kids his age, Ty is a huge Iron Man fan. "My favorite superhero is Iron Man and I'm not just saying that because I worked on the Iron Man movie. It actually is Iron Man," he says very emphatically....
