A bit of advice from a film guru: see The Love Guru. It's about a Canadian boy becoming a guru and coming back home to help a NHL star win his girlfriend back. Most of the time, Love Guru will make you laugh and some moments are so funny they will make you cry. However, Love Guru tries too hard and some of the jokes fall flat. The third eye senses a good film. Ages 12+

NANNY REVIEW: Uncomfortable...but Celibate!

In the beginning of THE LOVE GURU, the sexually-oriented jokes were funny. By the middle, they lost their spunk because of the overwhelming amount of them in every scene. The movie is a mixture of love lessons, hockey, and multiple inappropriate jokes. There were times where I would cringe at the filthy humor because I was sitting next to 13-year-old Cole the Kid Critic.

There are a few factors that make the movie likeable such as the caring character that Mike Myers plays. I think he did a great job with the caring guru voice as well as being celibate for the majority of the movie. It also shows the struggle that a person (Jessica Alba) has to go through when they are not succeeding at their job. I would not recommend it to anyone under the age of fourteen. I would give this movie a B.

PARENT REVIEW: Even Teens Think It's Immature

As I exited THE LOVE GURU, I walked past a 14-year old boy who was saying to his friends, "There were way too many penis jokes." I think that says it all.

In addition to the overwhelming amount of immature humor (sex, body parts, human waste, etc.), the jokes about the coach who is a dwarf are so mean-spirited it makes you feel bad that clearly Verne Troyer must have really needed the work to be humiliated in that way. The movie is so inappropriate and not even funny, so that essentially, THE LOVE GURU has no love for its audience. Ages 17+.
