The Lion King 3D

The Lion King is one of the best kids' movies, I've always thought so. The 3D is not worth it but since the movie is so good, it is worth it to go see it on the big screen. The 3D wasn't great because you couldn't even tell it was 3D most of the time, it just looked like a regular movie. Some moments were actually better in 3D but only like one or two -- and in one part the 3D made it scarier. I think it would be better without the 3D, but if you've already seen The Lion King and you want to see it again OR if you have never seen the movie before, you should still see it even though its in 3D. For all ages.

Holds Up Well, but 3D Detracts

Good News, The Lion King is still a great movie. Bad News is that the "3D" experience detracts. Look we've probably seen and (most likely) love it, because its a definitive movie from are childhood. Everything about it holds up: the story is still epic, songs are still memorable and catchy, and the voice work is still amazing. The overall problem with this obvious cash-in is that the 3D hampers the film, mostly because the film is 2D and leaves you wishing that it wasn't. Overall whether you should see this is up to you if you want the big screen Lion King experience, but for the price of 3D admission you're better off just buying the DVD.

See It In Spite of 3D

THE LION KING is what people might now call an epic epic and no matter how much time has passed, it hasn't lost its roar. Taking children to see this Disney modern classic is worth the cost of admission. I have to say that the 3D detracts more than it enhances between the discomfort and darkness that comes from wearing glasses. Additionally, rated G or not, THE LION KING has some intense, frightening scenes with tragic consequences - the intimacy of 3D makes the sad sadder and the scary scarier. Still, a young child at the screening seemed to have some questions for his mom but no tears. Go see THE LION KING in spite of, not because of, the 3D enhancement. (4 Stars is for the 3D, not the movie - THE LION KING IS and always will be a 5-star PICK!!) For kids 5 and up.
