Abduction

The only Abduction this film will do is straight out of your wallet. Abduction is about a guy discovering that his life is a lie and forced on the run from people who want to kill him. The problem is that throughout the film many of the characters make incredibly dumb decisions, for instance, if the real CIA was this incompetent, we should all be worried about national security. The script feels cobbled together and rushed, blatant product placement become annoying halfway through, and certain plot points feel a little too convenient. Lastly, if this is a showcase of Taylor Lautner and Lily Colins, then why do they suck so much. So let this film die in loneliness. Ages 14+

A Parent's Worst Nightmare

ABDUCTION is a parent's worst nightmare. The film opens with cool kid Taylor Lautner (who this movie is trying to pitch as the kid every boy wants to be) spreadeagle across the windshield of a moving truck, laughing, hooting and hollering. He arrives safely at his destination (his friend hits the brake and he suavely rolls across a lawn, unhurt), a high school party with no parental supervision with lots of underage drinking. The next morning, he wakes up shirtless (this is a Taylor Lautner movie after all) on the front lawn, having passed out from drinking too much. As he starts to help pick up trash (because the party-thrower says her parents are on the way home), his dad shows up to admonish him and take him home. He does get grounded, but not for breaking the law but for staying out all night without calling home. The movie does point out the one positive in all of this: Lautner's character did not drink and drive. So, there's one positive.

That's all to demonstrate that "Nathan" starts the movie off with anger management issues and irresponsible. He quickly has no time to worry about any of that, he is off to have to defend himself and his friend from bad guys. After that, Nathan is jumping out of cars, throwing people out of trains, and sliding down the sides of buildings. I don't think anyone will watch the action sequences and think they could really jump out of a car or slide down a baseball stadium, but the truck surfing - I'd be surprised if teens didn't try that after seeing ABDUCTION. Ages 13+.
