HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA Exclusive! Selena Gomez' Scary Secrets

Written by Monkey Riley    Monday, 25 June 2012 17:07

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, Selena GomezSelena Gomez trades in her wizard's wand for vampire teeth as Mavis, Count Dracula's daughter, in the 3D animated comedy Hotel Transylvania. KidsPickFlicks attended Mavis' 118th birthday party on the Sony Animated Pictures lot where Selena shared that Adam Sandler joined her for most of her sessions (producer Michelle Murdocca says they scheduled the sessions for four hours a day for four days, but Selena is "such a workhorse" that she insisted on doing 3 hours straight through, with no breaks!). Selena revealed she loves to be scared, including scary movies, staying at a haunted hotel ("nothing happened, which was disappointing") and "going to Knott's Scary Farm every year!"

During the party, KidsPickFlicks.com's Red Carpet Riley spoke with 19-year old Selena about her Transylvania-n life.

KPF: I loved you in "Wizards of Waverly Place," by the way.

Selena: Thank you!

KPF: Which do you like better: vampires, wizards or – since you dated one in the show -- werewolves?

Selena: I'd say wizards because that was my home and it was fun being a wizard for a while.

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, Selena GomezKPF: Is Mavis a Fright Night-type vampire or a Twilight vegan vampire?

Selena: I'd say vegan, for sure, just because she's a little more laid back. She's not necessarily one that's going to come out and scare everybody. She's just a typical teenager, in a way, and can be very relatable in some of the things that she goes through.

KPF: What did you do to make Mavis different than Alex?

Selena: She is, already, very different in her own way. The way they wrote Mavis, she's going through something that is a little bit different than any other character I've played before. She's stuck in this hotel, he's [Count Dracula] built this entire hotel for her to stay in for the rest of her life. She's trapped. She doesn't get any freedom. She's never met anybody her age; that's when Jonathan comes in and she meets a human for the first time. She's having all these new experiences for the first time: getting out of the hotel, meeting a human, falling in love, so she's going through a lot – which is really fun – and she kind of has her own way of going through it.

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, Selena GomezKPF: What's the first scary movie you ever saw?

Selena: Chucky. That was not my doing, that was my father's doing, but it was very entertaining...for HIM, at the time!

KPF: What's your favorite scary movie?

Selena: I like Halloween. The Halloweens with Jamie Lee Curtis. I suggest you wait a little longer before you watch those!

KPF: Of all the monsters in the movie, which one do you think would be your best friend?

Selena: Probably the Mummy. He's super funny. Cee Lo Green plays him and he's totally THAT character; he's really fun and brings all the light in the situation. He's the comedy relief.

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, Selena GomezKPF: Since you've met Adam Sandler, and whenever Adam Sandler has a friend in a movie he brings them into other movies with him...

Selena: Yes!

KPF: So, should we be looking for you in any of his upcoming movies?

Selena: Hopefully! That would be awesome, that's a good point. I would be honored. I would work with him again in a heartbeat. He was so funny, really nice, supportive, and it was good.

KPF: Also, in Grown Ups 2, David Henrie's going to be in it.

Selena: I know! He's super excited, he plays something totally different, too. He plays this jock guy who is a little arrogant, which isn't like what he's normally played, so he's super excited about that and ecstatic to work with Adam.

KPF: What fashion trend do you most like, because you have a lot of good fashions.

Selena: Thank you. I like jeggings. They're comfortable, that's just what it boils down to; there's nothing too artistic about it. The design of it is super fun, you can't even tell they're jeans or leggings or whatever, they're just really fun and comfortable.

KPF: Do you have any other movies coming up?

Selena: I do. I worked on two other movies this year, so I'm pretty sure they'll come out next year. One is called Spring Breakers, which is a little bit older and something I've been wanting to do for a while, getting out of my comfort zone. Another one is The Getaway, which is an action movie. It's my first experience being in an action movie with car chasing scenes and playing a totally different character as well, having to know about computers and know about cars, so it was good. They're totally different movies, all of them are very separate.

Hotel Transylvania opens in theaters Sept. 28.
