I think kids my age shouldn't see this movie, it should be rated R. They use some bad words (like son of a *****) and it's kind of sad. It is funny in the beginning, though.

Starts Funny, Ends Sad

One hyper movie. Marley and Me is about a young couple who adopt an overly-energetic dog. The film goes as follows: it's funny for the first half then turns into a drama after that. Ultimately, its a good film, but it's not exactly a comedy. In fact, in the end its a sad film. Ages 10+

PARENT REVIEW: Get a Babysitter

Marley and Me is a perfect film for parents. However, it's not ideal for grade school age kids.

The shiny bright bauble that pulls you in is adorable miscreant Marley the dog. However, the story actually chronicles a marriage over the course of the dog's life.

The familiarity of the youthful fun and painful hardships of the marriage of John and Jennifer Grogan will resonate with parents but kids will be tapping their fingers. In fact, my kids started a Tears Watch ... more fascinated with the fluid level in my eyes than what was happening on screen.

We get a good dose of marital relations in both the baby making and the fighting context. But most of all, Marley and Me is unexpectedly sad. The sounds of children quietly sobbing were heard throughout our theater. I don't have to tell you that kids have no appreciation for films that are "touching."

You should definitely go see Marley and Me with your spouse, your date, your friend...but your kids will appreciate it if you get a babysitter for them. Ages 10 and up.
