UPDATE: Ophelia Lovibond joins the cast of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. In Mr. Popper's Penguins, Lovibond played Popper's assistant Pippi who always selected words with the first letter "p." Lovibond will again plan an assistant, this one to a historian type named The Collector who, as his name indicates, collects artifacts in case a galaxy goes instinct, as has been predicted.
Zoe Saldana (Star Trek) has also joined the cast as a green alien named Gamora and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista will play Drax the Destroyer.

April 17, 2013 - Michael Rooker ("The Walking Dead," Jumper) is the second actor cast in Guardians of the Galaxy. He'll play Yondu, a member of a primitive tribe living on the first planet colonized outside of the solar system.
Feb. 6, 2013 - Chris Pratt ("Parks and Recreation") will star in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, playing Star-Lord, the half-human/half-alien who is the leader of a group of alien superheroes who protect the solar system from evil aliens. Pratt recently showed he can be tough: he's pretty believable as a Navy SEAL in Zero Dark Thirty.

July 2, 2012 - Marvel Studios is looking beyond The Avengers for the next generation of superhero films. The comic book giant plans to make alien-centric Guardians of the Galaxy, about superheros who are each the only surviving member of their planet. The crew lives in the 31st century but travel back in time to help Earth battle the Badoon, an evil alien race trying to take over our world. The Guardians include Drax, Star-Lord, Rocket Racoon (exactly what you think, he's a racoon who sets off rockets) and a tree named Groot. Marvel and Disney execs like the screenplay from rookie scribe Nicole Perlman. Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for release May 16, 2014.
Other Marvel comic properties the studio is developing for motion picture consideration: Ant-Man, the Inhumans, Dr. Strange and Black Panther.
