POTTED POTTER: THE UNAUTHORIZED HARRY EXPERIENCE - A PARODY BY DAN AND JEFF, review

UPDATE: Performances of "Potted Potter" has been extended at the Little Shubert Theater through Sept. 2, 2012!

The Harry Potter movies are over, you've read all the books, but you still want more of the boy wizard? The stage show "Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience - A Parody by Dan and Jeff" is satisfying the need in the funniest of ways. BBC Television Hosts Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner condense (or "pot" - I guess that's a British term) all seven books in the series into "70 madcap minutes" including multiple costume changes, songs, props and plenty of Hogswarts' magic. It's scheduled to play at the Little Shubert Theater in New York City (422 West 42nd St.).  KidsPickFlicks' New York correspondents Daniel, Ethan and Gabriel and mom Julie say "Potted Potter" is a PICK!

Reviews:

by Daniel, Age 12:

"Potted Potter" is an off-Broadway, unofficial parody of the Harry Potter book and film series and if it's anything, it's funny! This production is clever and has the added twist of the actors being British and playing to an American audience that may not quite get the jokes, which makes it unpredictable and even funnier at times. The promise of "Potted Potter" is seven Harry Potter books in 70 minutes and they pretty much kept their promise! The timing is perfect and comedic with only two actors to perform the entire show. Luckily I had the chance to talk with the actors Daniel Clarkson and Jeff Turner, who also wrote the show, after a performance. These guys are slated for 10 shows a week and only occasionally have alternate performers! I asked them how they manage to keep it fresh every time and Dan and Jeff said the interaction with the audience is what keeps them motivated because they never quite know what's going to happen. Even though the premise of the show is the same, you never see the same show twice! I recommend for anyone who is 6 years or older and a fan of Harry Potter!

by Ethan, Age 9:

"Potted Potter" is a very funny and unusual parody of the famous books and movies Harry Potter. It is lots of fun for the whole family and they cover all 7 books during the show! You will laugh every second of the entire show, and you will love it. You don't need to have read the books to see the show, but it does help to know a little about Harry Potter so you can get the jokes. You will have the best time ever at this spectacular show.

by Gabriel, Age 6:

Basically there is two people named Dan and Jeff and its so so so hilarious you will laugh so hard. You even get to play Quidditch!!!! Dan plays all the characters and Jeff plays Harry Potter. I didn't see all the Harry Potter movies or read the books but I still think the show was really funny. Dan and Jeff are very nice, too. Bye! So have fun at the show.

by Mom Julie, How Dare You Ask My Age:

"Potted Potter" is a brilliant show put together by two friends, Dan Clarkson and Jeff Turner. We got to spend some time with them after the show and they are just as brilliant off stage as they are on stage. Dan and Jeff met about 7 years ago on the streets of London when Jeff was trying his hand at street theater and Dan happened
by looking for an unsuspecting actor to help him with his idea for a condensed Harry Potter show that would cover all the books up to that point! History was made, well ok, not history, but hilarity. Still very good mates today, they have created "Potted Potter" which parodies all seven Harry Potter books in about 70 minutes. That may be the best part of the show, that it is quick, concise, to the point and pretty much a laugh riot from start to finish. I went with my three kids and they are not quite finished with the Potter books but have seen the movies and still had a great time. You can enjoy the show if you haven't read the books but have seen the movies as I think some cursory knowledge of Harry Potter is helpful. There is a ton of audience interaction which is a blast to see and participate in as well. All in all, "Potted Potter," which may be touring in a town near you soon, is magical!
