Brilliant 14-Year Old THE BOY WHO PLAYED WITH FUSION Gets Movie

Written by Tara the Mom    Tuesday, 31 July 2012 09:56

Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud) is in talks to direct The Boy Who Played with Fusion for Chernin  Entertainment/20th Century Fox. The film will be adapted from a Popular Science article about Taylor Wilson, a brilliant real life 14 year old from Arkansas who tried to cure his grandmother's cancer by harnessing short-lived isotopes that kill off cancer cells. He was able to apply the technology to discover dirty bombs hidden in shipping containers. The boy was able to realize his inventions because his parents, while not understanding where his intelligence or passion for nuclear fusion came from, still nurtured his talent and gave him the room to pursue his interests. The story will contrast with another genius teen who was not given the support to follow his curiousity and secretly tries to build a breeder reactor in a shed and, instead, ends in police and Hazmat units.
