UPDATE: Jennifer Jason Leigh, one of Hollywoods most respected actresses, is joining The Spectacular Now. She'll play the mother of Miles Teller's popular high schooler. Source: Variety Aug. 2, 2012 - Shailene Woodley ("The Secret Life of the American Teenager"), Miles Teller (the scene stealer in Footloose), and Brie Larson and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (both from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) are some of the stars cast in The Spectacular Now, which seems to be next non-rom-com rom-com. From Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the screenwriters who upended the rom-com with (500) Days of Summer, the story follows outgoing, adventurous high school senior Sutter (Teller) who Winstead will play Sutter's sister, "Friday Night Lights" coach Kyle Chandler (Super 8) will play his dad, Bob Odenkirk ("Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Good Job!") will play his boss and Andre Royo ("Fringe") his teacher. Masam Holden ("Halo 4: Forward Unto the Dawn") will play Sutter's best friend; Kaitlyn Dever ("Last Man Standing" will play Aimee's best friend. Brie Larson plays Cassidy and Dako Okeniyi (Thresh from The Hunger Games) is cast as Marcus, although no details were given about their characters. A Night at the Museum and Real Steel producer-director Shawn Levy will executive produce through his 21 Laps and Yale and Columbia University graduate James Ponsoldt will direct. The film is currently listed as an indie but Levy has a strong relationship with 20th Century Fox, so perhaps they'll pick it up. Source: Variety |
