UPDATE: Jeffrey Wright (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace) will play District 3's electronics expert Beetee aka "Volts" in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Wright won a Tony, an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his performance in "Angels in America."
Aug. 12, 2012 - Stephanie Leigh Schlund (The Last Song, "Drop Dead Diva") will play Cashmere in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Cashmere is a former Career tribute from District 1. She competes in the Quarter Quell with her brother Gloss ("Smallville"'s Alan Ritchson). Schulnd is an Atlanta-based former "Price is Right" model who became tabloid fodder in June when it was inaccurately reported she was dating Nick Jonas.
Aug. 11, 2012 --Maria Howell ("The Vampire Diaries," What to Expect When You're Expecting) will play former District 11 victor Seeder in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Howell is an Atlanta-based actress who, like E. Roger Mitchell -- the actor cast as her District 11 associate Chaff -- is a Tyler Perry fave: she's been in "House of Payne" and Daddy's Little Girls. Perry's movies and TV shows are made my Lionsgate, the studio making The Hunger Games movies, so both Howell and Mitchell may have already been known within the company.
Aug. 10, 2012 --Tyler Perry favorite E. Roger Mitchell (Diary of a Mad Black Woman, "House of Payne") will play Chaff in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Chaff is a District 11 former winner of the Hunger Games who will compete in the Quarter Quell. Mitchell was also in Battle: Los Angeles.
Additionally, Alan Ritchson ("Fred: The Show" and he played AquaMan in "Smallville") will play Gloss, another career tribute who plays in the Quarter Quell with his sister Cashmere.
Aug. 6, 2012 - "Sons of Anarchy" star Patrick St. Esprit will play District 12's Head Peacekeeper Romulus Thread in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. St. Esprit often portrays military types, including the Weapons Commander in Super 8, military intel in Green Zone and an admiral in the upcoming Liberty.
Aug. 2, 2012 - Tony-winning stage actress Lynn Cohen (Eagle-Eye, Across the Universe) has been cast to play Mags in the upcoming movie The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. In the story, Mags is the 80-year old former District 4 mentor to famed contestant Finnick Odair. Cohen may be getting type-cast with the name Mags ... one of her most memorable characters is Magda, nanny and housekeeper for Miranda in "Sex and the City."
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is currently slated for November 22, 2013. Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) is directing.
