Monsters vs. Aliens

This film is extremely enjoyable. It has good action, is funny, and tells an interesting story. The characters are also very well voiced. This is a film kids will enjoy.

At first, the monsters B.O.B, Insectosaurus, Dr. Cockroach, The Missing Link, and the newly added Ginormica, are frightening monsters kept away from humans. But when they’re given the chance to be free in exchange for fighting an alien invader, they soon become herose adored by mankind. And Ginormica, who used to be ordinary Susan, finds she likes being a monster. The story is unexpectedly mostly about her.

The look of the scenery and creatures is amazing. Ginormica/Susan is actually very pretty. When they’re in San Francisco, I thought the whole thing looked perfect. The 3-D isn’t eye-popping really, but it sort of takes you into the setting. People will like that.

Most of the jokes were funny, but I didn’t care for some of the potty-jokes. The comedy is more for boys, but girls will like it too. And all kids will laugh at the dumb comments made by B.O.B. And there’s also references to 50’s sci-fi and horror films only adults, and a small amount of kids, would get. All-in-all, this film is enjoyable.

I Love Bob the Glob

Monsters Vs Aliens was a great movie. My favorite character was Bob, a great glob which can eat anything. He doesn't even have a brain, I'm telling ya!

The story is about a woman who is name is Susan and she is about to get married. There's this thing she sees up in the sky. She runs and she gets hit by it and when she was just about to kiss Derek, her husband-to-be, she glows and she turns giant. That's where our story begins.

Susan is taken by the government to Monster Jail where she meets four monsters. One of them is Bob. When an alien comes to Earth, the monsters are sent to destroy the aliens and save the world.

I liked Bob's jokes. I didn't like when Susan was human size. You should see this movie because it's really funny.

3-D Adds Nothing

Monsters vs. Aliens biggest upset is that 3-D effects adds nothing to the experience and after 10 minutes you forget that it's suppose to be in 3-D. Story line has nothing original about it and features many cliches including the Golden State Bridge getting destroyed. You will laugh quite a bit which saves it from a bad review. Overall Monsters vs. Aliens isn't bad or good. Ages 6+

PARENT REVIEW: She Thought Planes Were Attacking

My 3 year old daughter was in my lap and crying through much of the movie. She kept thinking the 3D special effects were real and that planes, missles and cannon balls truly did keep whizzing over her head.

It probably would have gone better if her dad wasn't messing with her, asking if she felt the plane over her head.

She says she likes it, though, and she'd like to see it again.

PARENT REVIEW: A 3-D War Is Scary For Under 5

Did I enjoy Monsters Vs. Aliens? Heck ya. There are all kinds of aliens and monsters pop culture references from the 1970s-90s. I think it was one Alf joke away from being completely comprehensive. However, I don't think the kids did.

Monsters Vs. Aliens is fun enough but it is about the government finally releasing a sequestered squad of monsters into the public eye when a powerful evil alien lands on Earth. Right off the bat, we learn that yes, monsters ARE real, the government is just hiding them from us (risking returning families back to deal with "what's under my bed" for another year). As it turns out, aliens are real, too.

We see the story through the eyes of Susan (Reese Witherspoon) who grows enormously by a freak accident on her wedding day. Susan is in love with her boyfriend Derek, and as you know, love is blind. Susan is a voice of reason and perspective. We feel her sadness, frustration, and being overwhelmed. She eventually learns she has the strength INSIDE her (in this case, literally) to handle anything.

There is a battle and it is likely not frightening on a regular screen. However, in 3D, it's a lot scarier for smaller kids. I talked to a 6 year old who was not scared, a 4 year old who was scared "just a little bit" and a 3 1/2 year old who was very scared.

So that Monsters versus Aliens doesn't play out in your kids subconsicous, be careful about bringing the little ones to the 3D version. For 6 and up.
