MOVIE STAR MOVIE CRITICS MOVIE REVIEW: 17-year Old College Grad Kat McNamara "Picks" ADMISSION

Written by Tara the Mom    Monday, 08 April 2013 18:14

altWhen it comes to thinking about college, talk to Katherine McNamara. The 17-year old "Girl vs. Monster" and "Kickin' It" star graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in March! Kat says she plans to pursue her Master's degree and studying for GRE (the test you have to take to get into grad school) and GMAT (the test to get into school to pursue an MBA). So, as high school seniors around the country are finding out what colleges they got into and making their decisions by the May 1 deadline, it's totally fitting that Kat -- and her movie star movie critic friend Joel Courtney from Super 8 -- review the Tina Fey movie Admission, which they rate as a 5-star PICK:

alt"This spring break, be sure to take note of this great new comedy. Admission follows the story of Portia Nathan, played by Tina Fey, a quirky Princeton admissions officer who visits a new innovative school, founded by John Pressman (Paul Rudd), in order to impress her boss. As she does so, she is forced to open up to Rudd's character as she explores roles she never thought she would consider for herself. The writing on this film is great - its a perfect mix of humor and heartfelt moments. You will laugh, cry, and feel everything in between when you see this film. The cast is incredible as well. Obviously the Rudd and Fey are masters of their craft, but there are some standouts in the supporting cast as well. One is up and comer Nat Wolff who plays an unconventionally gifted student whose dream it is to attend Princeton and who appears to have a very close connection to a certain admissions officer... the answers can be found by paying the price of Admission."

This year, Joel and Kat's movie Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn opens in theaters. Additionally, Kat stars with Kenton Duty in The Contest, scheduled to come out this summer. Joel recently filmed Stephen King's Mercy, which is set for release in 2014. On Twitter, follow @Kat_McNamara @Joel_Courtney and, of course @KidsPickFlicks !

Emily VanCamp & Scarlett Johansson & Everyone Else Who Will Be in CAPT AMERICA 2: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Written by Tara the Mom    Monday, 08 April 2013 13:54

altCaptain America may be doing some time traveling in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The sequel to Captain America is set in the present day, however, many of the 1943 cast are signed up to co-star alongside our hero Chris Evans. Hayley Atwell will return as Peggy Carter (Captain America/Steve Roger's love interest), as will Toby Jones who played scientist henchman to Red Skull. Sebastian Stan comes back but maybe not so much as the character he first played, Bucky Barnes, who we last saw falling off a cliff, but rather post tranformation, as the Winter Soldier (ahem, see the title).

Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow teams up with Captain America in this and new S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are Emily VanCamp ("Revenge") and Robert Redford (the original Jay Gatsby in 1974's "The Great Gatsby" and the founder of the Sundance Film Festival). They'll join other S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Maximillo Hernandez. VanCamp's Agent 13 will be a romantic interest for Captain America.

Other new actors playing new characters in the Marvel Universe are Anthony Mackie (Real Steel) as Falcon/Sam Wilson, UFC fighter Georges St. Pierre as Georges Batroc and Frank Grillo (Zero Dark Thirty) as Brock Rumlow.

The movie takes place in Washington, D.C. and will film there as well as Los Angeles and Cleveland.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is slated for release April 4, 2014 (which means the summer movie season has officially moved to Spring Break).

Written by Tara the Mom    Monday, 08 April 2013 00:00

altUPDATE: Graham Rogers from "Revolution" (Struck by Lightning) and "New Girl" actor Dermot Mulroney (Big Miracle) are joining the cast of Careful What You Wish For. Rogers will play the best friend of Nick Jonas' character and Mulroney will play Isabel Lucas' husband.

altMarch 19, 2013: Nick Jonas (The Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience) will star in the thriller Careful What You Wish For alongside Isabel Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Red Dawn. The story is about a young guy (Jonas) who starts a romantic relationship with the woman living next door (Lucas) who is married to a rich and powerful investment banker. Her husband dies mysteriously and the sizeable insurance policy leads everyone to be a suspect in his death. Ramona and Beezus director Elizabeth Allen will helm.

Of course, Nick has had lots of of experience acting on his former TV show "Jonas," TV movie "Camp Rock" and most recently "Smash." However, this will be his first leading role.

"DIVERGENT is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. Joe: Retaliation, Thor). Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class) will play Christina, Maggie Q ("Nikita") will play Tori, Ansel Elgort (Carrie) will play Caleb, and Romeo is rumored to be playing Uriah.

Here's the offical logline of the story from Summit Entertainment:

alt"DIVERGENT is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late.

A man with a mysterious past, Four is Tris's intense yet charismatic instructor and one of the leaders of the Dauntless faction."

altMarch 14, 2012 -  A Good Day to Die Hard star Jai Courtney joins Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet in Divergent. The Australian actor will play Eric, the leader of the Dauntless. This role is not, however, the male romantic lead that director Neil Burger has been searching for.

Courtney was also recently seen in Jack Reacher.

Jan. 25, 2013 - Shailene Woodley ("The Secret Life of the American Teenager") will star and Kate Winselt (Titanic) is in talks to join Divergent, Hunger Games-ish movie about a society in which everyone is put into a category, or "faction," that defines their primary personality trait. When an aptitude test reveals 16-altyear old Beatrice (Woodley) is a "divergent," meaning she embodies more than one trait, she must choose a faction and compete for acceptance. The teen male lead is still up for grabs with director Neil Burger (Limitless) passing on Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class), Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four).

Sept. 13, 2012 - Summit has given Divergent a release date of March 21, 2014. The date indicates they are going forward with the film adaptation of the young adult book series (the first two books have been released and sold 1.5 million a piece). Summit has not hired a director or a cast for the film yet.

altFeb. 10, 2011 - Okay...new movie trend alert: futuristic dystopian worlds where teens rebel against the new order. Joining The Hunger Games and Now is Divergent. Summit Entertainment is negotiating to get the film rights to 22-year old Veronica Roth's young adult book about a society that is divided into populations based on human traits (honesty, selflessness, bravery, intelligence and peaceful). At the age of 16, each kid must pick a faction to live with and the story's heroine Beatrice and the boy she falls for realize they don't fall into one specific group.

The Hunger Games is about a futuristic dystopian society in which two teens are forced to fight to the death as a form of entertainment and proof of sacrifice. Now is about a futuristic society in which people stop aging at the age of 25 (by paying the price) or die.
