Let the 74th hunger games begin
May the odds be ever in your favor! The much anticipated movie, the Hunger Games, rolled into theaters on March 23. It is based on the book by Suzanne Collins and is about 24 tributes from districts being forced to fight to death. People always say that the book is better than the movie. This applies to the Hunger Games as well. However, I think that book lovers would enjoy this movie too.
I think that the movie stays true to the book most of the time, but there are some parts from the book that I wish were included in the movie. This PG-13 movie definitely had less blood and gore than the book as they tried to show the brutal deaths as little as they could. I especially liked that it showed the Gamemaker’s point of view; whereas, in the book, it only showed Katniss’s point of view. This added a whole new depth to the story because you could see how the games were run and how decisions were made that led to the death of tributes. Also, in the book, I found Haymitch to be a despicable character, with his drinking habits and all. However, because his attitude in the movie was quite different, Haymitch was not despicable, but rather a little bit likable. The actors were spectacular and the scenery was breathtaking when needed. The lavish capital had many towering skyscrapers and District 12 had the rundown look to it.
Overall, the Hunger Games is a well made movie. Even if you haven’t read the book, this movie is worth seeing in theaters.
