PADDINGTON Comes for Christmas

Written by Tara the Mom    Friday, 15 November 2013 00:00

altUPDATE: Paddington will be in theaters next Christmas, the release date is set for Dec. 12, 2014.

Sept. 13, 2013 - Paddington Bear, the polite and proper stuffed animal from Peru, will get his chance at movie stardom thanks to David Heyman, the producer of the Harry Potter movies. Colin Firth, who won an Academy Award for playing King George VI in The King's Speech, will be the voice of Paddington in this CGI/live-action movie (like Alvin and the Chipmunks). Nicole Kidman will play a taxidermist (the people who preserve the bodies of formerly alive animals) bent on revenge. The rest of the cast is lpretty Potterish: Jim Broadbent (Prof. Horace Slughorn in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince); Julie Walters (Molly Weasley in the Harry Potter movies); Sally Hawkins (the upcoming Great Expectations, incidentally helmed by the director of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire); and Hugh Bonneville ("Downton Abbey"...I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find a Potter connection as well, but I have other things to do).

The story is about lonely Paddington Bear who travels to London to look for a home. He meets the Browns who offer him a temporary place to stay which is all going well until a taxidermist sees him and decides she wants him for her next museum piece. Paul King directs for The Weinstein Company-Dimension and Studiocanal.
